The Norwegian ice hockey team beat Slovenia 2:1 in overtime at the Winter Olympics, thus advancing to the quarter finals and ending the medal hopes of the Slovene competitors.
The loss comes despite a strong opening from Slovenia, who made 16 shots at the goal in the first period, compared to Norway’s 9, and scored about 6 minutes into the game. Slovenia also kept ahead in the second period, with 9 shots to 4, but then Norway equalised in the third period.
The game went into overtime at a score of 1:1, and then the Norwegians sealed the deal with a winning goal that will see them next face Russia on Wednesday to play for a place in the semi-finals.
The Slovene team played without one of its stars, Žiga Jeglič, who was banned from the match after testing positive for fenoterol, a performance-enhancing drug that opens up the airways to the lungs.
