STA, February 5, 2018 - Hosts Slovenia gave their best against Russia in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Futsal EURO on Monday, but it was not enough as the heavily favoured Russians scored a hard-fought 2:0 (0:0) victory to make it to the semi-finals.
The sold-out Stožice Arena saw an underwhelming affair in the first half, with Russia's Niyazov having two best opportunities to score.
Russia finally broke Slovenia in the 27th minute, with Eder Lima scoring in a counter attack off an assist by Chishkala.
Slovenia applied Fetić as the flying goalie in the last five minutes in an effort to equalise the score, but failed, while Robinho sealed the deal for the runners-up from two years ago with a goal 24 seconds to go.
In the first quarter-final match of the day, Kazakhstan defeated Serbia 3:1 in what was a replay of the third-place match at the previous Euro two years ago.
Serbia reduced the score to 1:2 with five minutes to go, but Douglas sealed the deal for Kazakhstan with 23 seconds to go by stealing the ball and finding the empty goal from some 13 metres out.
