STA, 24 May 2018 - Given the complicated global security situation and what seems like a potential new wave of migrants crossing the Balkans, security is one of the most prominent topics in the campaign ahead of the 3 June parliamentary election. Voters will be able to choose from a number of very different positions advocated by the 25 participating parties. 

STA, 23 May 2018 - Slovenia was urged to make responsible fiscal policies and continue reforming its health and pension systems as the European Commission presented its spring recommendations for member states in Brussels on Wednesday. The Commission also called for privatisation to continue as planned.

Plečnik wasn’t the only architect who designed Ljubljana. 

Sandi Gorišek is a mechanical engineer by training and profession, working on projects that often take him out of the country. By chance he was working in America just as Melania Trump was entering public consciousness there, and soon grew tired of being asked the same questions again and again.

While others may have just waved off all inquiries, Mr Gorišek, who fizzes with energy and ideas, decided to do something more. So he wrote and published a short book on the woman who was born Melanija Knavs – in Novo mesto, not Sevnica – and the world she grew up in. Having purchased and read a copy I got in touch with the author and arranged to meet him for a drink, record our conversation and type it up to share with you, lightly edited for concision and clarity.

STA, 23 May 2018 - There is only one political party happy with Slovenia's foreign policy: the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS), whose president Karl Erjavec has been foreign minister since 2012. Opposition parties above all are the most critical of Slovenia's foreign policy, claiming the country has leaned too far toward Russia.

May 23, 2018 – Ex-Yu Aviation reports that Flydubai is expected to launch regular flights between Ljubljana and Dubai, either later this year or in time for the summer season 2019. 

STA, 23 May 2018 - China's Hisense, which published its intent for the acquisition of Gorenje on 11 May, acquired more than 20% of the household appliance maker outside of the stock market in recent days and currently holds a 22.56% stake, the business daily Finance reports today. 

STA, 23 May 2018 - Slovenia's pharma group Krka posted EUR 338.3m in sales in the first quarter of the year, an all-time quarterly high and a 5% increase on the same period last year. Net profit was up by 16% to EUR 49.4m.
