The first of these is another Pivo & Burger Festival by the team behind Open Kitchen, which runs the regular Friday events in Pogačarjev trg, the market square next to the Cathedral and not far from the Triple Bridge, on the same side of the river as the Old Town (see the map at the end).

While on Fridays you can try food and drink from a wide range of producers, with something for every taste or dietary restriction, the Pivo & Burger events are obviously more focused. And thus this weekend, September 29 and 30, you’ll be able to sample the delights of Slovenia’s flourishing craft beer industry, with the hoppiest of IPAs alongside sours, porters, lagers, wheatbeers, radlers and more.

To keep you grounded there’ll be burgers from names big and small around town, as well as other grilled delights, and even some vegetarian and vegan options. The festival starts at 11:00, and lasts until 22:00 both days.

The second event takes place on the 20th floor of the newly opened Hotel InterContinental, Ljubljana’s only five-star hotel and the tallest building downtown, one that offers fantastic views of the Castle and city in general. However, note that this isn’t New York or Hong Kong, and what you’ll see in the daytime – the trees and green spaces throughout Ljubljana, and the Alps towering in the distance – is perhaps more spectacular than at night

In addition to the B-restaurant&bar’s usual menu of wines, cocktails, liquors, beers, non-alcoholic drinks and bar snacks, until October 2 you can also take an elevator to the sky and enjoy the special Oktoberfest Beer Bash offer. This is based around a Slovene craft beer, namely Pelicon’s Oktoberfest wheatbeer, but there’s also Jägermeister, sausages, roast beef sandwiches, pretzels and salad, although no staff in drindls

The Beer Bash is on for a long weekend, Friday to Monday, and runs from 16:00–22:00. Expect to pay a little more for your drinks than you would at ground level, but the view you’ll get from the 20th floor is more than worth the expense.
