The 10th Pivo & Burger Fest will be held this weekend in Ljubljana on April 14 and 15, taking place in Pogačarjev Square, by the Central Market, the same location as Friday’s Open Kitchen. It’s an ideal chance to sample the latest from Slovenia’s growing list of craft brewers, as well as try a gourmet burger or two fresh from the grill, with meat, seafood, vegetarian and even sweet options available.
As Lior Kochavy, the leader of the festival said: “This is the 10th such festival, and over the years there have been some big changes in the attitudes and habits of the people who attend, with a growing acceptance and greater adventurousness with regard to street or fast food in Ljubljana. I believe that the Pivo & Burger Fests have contributed to this, and that makes me very happy. After all, we all have to eat and drink, so we may as well try something different and good.”
More than 40 craft beers and gourmet burgers will be on offer at the event, with Damir Galijaš, the owner of the beer store Že v Redu, Primož, noting “The festival is really a great opportunity to try out novelties and enjoy the classics and debate them in a good company. It’s especially pleasing to me to see how the event has grown along with the microbrewery scene in Slovenia. In 2016, there were about fifty such brewers, and today there are around 100.”
While IPA and New England IPA will be well represented, as usual, there will also be a number of fruit and sour beers to try, produced using mixed or spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts and bacteria, and thus expect to see some local lambic brews, along with Berliner weisse, wild ale, gose and more.
The festival is on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15, 2018, and runs from 11:00 to 22:00, so brunch, lunch, dinner and supper are all options.
