January 10, 2018
Although the weather’s been mild this winter that does mean many places have suffered rain rather than enjoyed snow, and the unseasonal warmth does little to lift the gloom of still short days and what feels like months before the next official feast.
It’s at such times the mind turns to Laško, but the spa town not the beer, and to sitting in warm water and easing away one’s cares and concerns, just going with the flow and becoming invigorated, youthful, and better able to face whatever happens next.
While there are other spa towns in Slovenia, and we’ll get to those in time, Laško is notable for its proximity to Ljubljana, and we’ll tell you how to get there after saying what you’ll find.
Enjoy by the hour or for days
There are two spas in Laško, Thermana and Zdravlišče. Both are rated 4-star, but the first is 4-star ‘superior’ and so about 15–20% more expensive, depending on the offer, and there are many, many offers, with a page of PDFs available here
With regard to multi-day trips there are seasonal packages (PDF) costing, for example, around 70 EUR per adult at Theramana and about 60 EUR for Zdravlišče. If staying overnight, children under 5 are free, over five and under ten get a large discount (often up to 50%), while those aged over 10 and under 15 get a smaller discount (often 30%).
There are also a range of non-seasonal deals, such as basic Weekend Packages as well as those offering Beer Spa Pampering (which involves a beer butter complete body massage and a trip to Laško Brewery), Honey Spa Pampering, and a Romantic Getaway for Two. There are also deals with a more therapeutic focus, like Ayurveda medicine and treatments for specific ailments, such as a damaged spine, stroke or injured lower limbs. The prices for these as of January 2018 are on this PDF.
It should also be noted that a Medical Centre serves the spas offering a long list of treatments, including electrotherapy, hyperbaric therapy, balneotherapy, kinesiotherapy, thermotherapy, and acupuncture, as well as neurological, neurosurgical, psychiatric, orthopaedic rheumatologic clinics, with the details here.
If staying overnight, then all accommodation prices include, as per the website: “half board, accommodation in a double room standard, unlimited entrance to thermal swimming pools in both hotels (also on a departure day), daily entrance to fitness studio, bathrobe in the room, free wireless Internet in the room, hotel booklet of discounts, thermal water drinking, program of animation, relaxation and recreation.”
