The other week Bloomberg had us in the Balkans, and now The Guardian’s put Slovenia in Central Europe in a feature that examines “20 great holidays” in the region.
The recommended locations in the country we call home are as follows:
Kupljenik for a “friendly farm stay”, where “crickets chirp at sunset, the Sava river is full of trout and guests can help milk the goats should they wish (they make the farm’s organic goat’s cheese and curd), or even join in with haymaking”.
The Julian Alps, noting that one of the “joys of cycling around Slovenia’s north-west is having the craggy limestone backdrop” these provide.
Wellness is then covered at Urška Eco Farm, “a 40-minute drive from Maribor, [where] the focus is on slow food…with Turkish baths, a Jacuzzi and a hay bath”.
The full article, which also takes in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia can be found here.
