STA, 16 August 2018 - The National Assembly will meet on Friday to appoint Marjan Šarec, 40, prime minister-designate in secret ballot. Before the vote, he is to present the new government's agenda to the MPs, who could also vote on a new parliamentary speaker. 

STA, 14 August 2018 - Five prominent public figures have addressed an open letter to MPs ahead of Friday's vote in which Marjan Šarec is expected to be appointed prime minister-designate, putting forward two alternative proposals to form a government. 

The key point is this: if the Left is part of the opposition then it has an oversight role that it wouldn't have as part of the coalition, but by offering to support the coalition it seems to give up it's oversight duty. Much more detail follows below...

STA, 14 August 2018 - Matej Tonin reiterated his pledge on Tuesday to step aside as speaker of parliament "on the day when a new government will be sworn in", asserting that such was the deal when he was appointed on 22 June. However, if the incoming coalition change their minds, he will not defy them. 

STA, 10 August 2018 - The Left and five parties involved in coalition talks have initialled a cooperation protocol paving the way for the appointment of Marjan Šarec as prime minister-designate and for the formation of a minority government. The Left (Levica) will also provide votes for Social Democrat (SD) president Dejan Židan to become parliamentary speaker. 

STA, 8 August 2018 - The National Assembly is expected to take a vote on Marjan Šarec's bid to become Slovenia's next prime minister on 17 August. If he musters an absolute majority in the secret ballot, he will need to submit his cabinet to parliament by 1 September with the vote on the team to take place between 11 and 14 September. 

STA, 8 August 2018 - Marjan Šarec, a 40-year-old former comedian and mayor whose party came second in the 3 June election, was formally put forward for prime-minister designate by his and four other centrist parties on Wednesday. 

STA, 6 August - Marjan Šarec said after Monday's coalition-building talks that the five parties involved in the talks would nominate him prime minister-designate on Wednesday. Šarec expects the Left to endorse the nomination in the National Assembly as well. The parties also want SocDems head Dejan Židan appointed parliamentary speaker. 

STA, 5 August 2018 - President Borut Pahor issued a call for political unity in a speech Sunday marking the 150th anniversary of a proto-independence movement, noting that the nation needed to know how to stand together so as to better withstand major historical shifts when they occur. 

STA, 2 August 2018 - In his first comment to the second round of coalition talks led by Marjan Šarec, Janez Janša did not rule out the possibility on Thursday that Slovenia would get a weak government, but he said it would not last.
