Ilka Štuhec surprised all with a series of victories and ended the season first in downhill and alpine combined, and second place in overall alpine skiing, in last season’s World Cup. Štuhec, whose recent injury means she’s likely to miss the Olympics, won sportswomen of the year ahead of the eighteen-year old climber Janja Garnbret, and the judoka Tina Trstenjak.

Goran Dragić, a star of the NBA league and captain of the national basketball team, which won the European Championship this fall, won sportsman of the year ahead of the cyclist Pimož Roglič and another basketball player, Luka Dončić. Besides leading his victorious team to the victory in Istanbul, Dragić was also chosen as the best player in the EuroBasket contest.

Basketball players took almost half the awards this year, as Dončič also took the fourth place of the most notable young sportsmen, after mid-distance runner Maruša Mišmaš, motocross racer Tim Gajser and sports climbing sensation Janja Garnbret.
