The STA reports January 22, 2018, that the newspaper Delo finds that Slovenia should take the opportunity to recognise Palestine as an independent country "in the name of humanity", as it says in the headline of its front-page commentary on Monday.
"Donald Trump's recent decision to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem hit the final nail in the coffin of the long clinically dead peace process and of the 'two-states solution' - Palestine has been erased from the world's political map and it can easily happen that the suffering of the Palestinian people... too will be erased from the memory of the international community.
"This is one of the reasons why Slovenia's approaching recognition of Palestinian statehood, which can only be prevented by another 'geostrategic' bomb, is so important. At last we could take the opportunity and step on the right side of history. And 'pull' others along. In the name of humanity, not political opportunism."
