Healthcare woes
"Care for the sickest patients deteriorating": The UKC Ljubljana has had to reduce the number of beds in the central intensive care unit from 14 to nine due to a shortage of nurses, who have left for better paid jobs. The hospital is warning that if the trend continues, access to treatment will deteriorate. (front page, 4)

Austrian asylum policy
"No taboos for Austria in asylum": Austria is seeking new approaches to asylum policy as it starts its six-month presidency of the EU. Although it does not want a single-topic presidency, migrations have overshadowed everything else. (front page, 3)

Audit at bad bank
"Irregularities at 'Scandinavian' BAMC": The Court of Audit has found that the bad bank was inefficient and uneconomical in 2014 and 2015, when it was under the management of Scandinavian executives. Unofficially, it has issued an adverse opinion, but many shortcomings have already been addressed. (front page)

Agrokor restructuring
"Mercator remains in old Agrokor": Under an agreement reached by Agrokor creditors yesterday, Slovenian retailer Mercator will not be transferred to the new Agrokor. It will remain with the old Agrokor, which may end up in bankruptcy eventually. (front page, 5)

Janković trial
"Janković need not fear the pharmacist": The Supreme Court has confirmed the prosecution missed a two-year deadline in a case involving Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković soliciting sexual favours in exchange for arranging a pharmacist a job. This means wiretaps will not be admissible evidence and the prosecution will not be able to use them in other trials either. (front page, 3)

Cross-border payments
"Transfer to Croatia from the couch": In order to avoid high conversion fees, many Slovenian owners of real estate in Croatia pay their utility bills by driving to Croatia. But there are now ways to avoid excessive fees with online banking. (front page, 4)

Starting a business
"Study: Ideal time to start business 40-plus": A US study has shown that those who start a business when they are over 40 are more successful than 20-year-olds. They have more experience and a better social network starting out. (front page, 2, 3)

Krka AGM
"Will Krka shareholders confirm dividends of 2.9 euro gross?": The management of drug maker Krka has proposed a dividend payout of 2.9 euro gross per share, but small shareholders want 3.5 euro. In five of the last six years, the management's proposal was confirmed. (front page, 6, 7)

Bankruptcies
"How the state is looking for EUR 11m in the Odlazek empire and why it will never find it": It is believed EUR 11m in state funds for the employment of the disabled "evaporated" in two sheltered workshops that formed part of the business empire of Martin Odlazek. The state is now seeking to recover the money but is unlikely to ever get back even a cent. (front page, 10, 11)

Agrokor restructuring
"Agrokor creditors' agreement adopted. What now?": The creditors of Agrokor yesterday confirmed a restructuring agreement that will create a new Agrokor. It remains unclear at this point what fate awaits Agrokor's Slovenian subsidiary Mercator. (front page, 8)

"A beer per half time": Fans watching football in Maribor bars tend to prefer beer and they average a beer per half time. (front page, 10, 22, 23)

Maribor politics
"Councillors vote to disband tourism office": The Maribor City Council has voted to disband the municipal tourism office and transfer its activities onto the city administration. The mayor says this was not to get rid of the director. (front page, 9)

Regional aid
"State funds for the region": The state has allocated EUR 41.2m in regional aid to Pomurje. Additionally, the state will also provide nearly EUR 3m for investments by companies Medicop and Ocean orchids. (front page, 14)
