Having grown year on year from the first Maribor-based event in 2012, and still organized by the food writer Uroš Mencinger, this year’s spring edition of Restaurant Week will soon be upon us, offering the chance for you to sample specially prepared menus from some of the top restaurants all around the country, for a bargain price of 18 EUR.
This year a record 101 specially-chosen establishments will be taking part in the week, which serves as both a celebration and promotion of local cuisine just as the tourist season kicks off. Last year saw more than 90,000 guests enjoy meals at 97 restaurants, and due to the growing popularity of the event, along with Slovenia’s fame as a foodie destination, reservations are strongly recommended.
More details can be found at the official website, which, although in Slovene, is easily navigable with the aid of Google Translate, and includes the participating restaurants by region, the menus on offer, and details of how to make a booking.
The featured restaurants are located all over the country, with 25 in Central Slovenia, 20 in the North, 12 in the South, 25 in the East and 19 in the West. For example, the places in Ljubljana taking part in the week include such big names as Restavracija pri Levu, Restavracija Vander, Altroké, Kult316, Gostilna na Gradu, JB Restavracija, Shambala, Slon 1552, Restavracija Strelec, Restavracija Union, Atelje, Hiša Kulinarike Manna, Restavracija Harfa, Stalca pri Vodniku, Hotel Cubo and Restavracija Maxim.
