This week’s focus is March 8th, Women’s Day, with various events on around town. One related festival to note is the 19th International Feminist and Queer Festival, running from March 7 to 11, and organised by Red Dawns. The full program of events, workshops, performances and more can be found here, and there’s also a Facebook page. The Fabula - Literature of the World Festival is also on this week, with most events being free and held at Cankerjev dom. More details can be found on the website or Facebook page.

Kinodvor – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Shape of Water continue playing here, while new releases include two good-looking French language films, Michael Haneke’s Happy End and Claire Denis’ Un beau soleil intérieur / Let the Sun Shine In.
Kinoteka – A number of films by female directors will be playing this week, such as Jane Campion’s Holy Smoke and The Portrait of a Lady, Julie Taymor’s Frida.
Komuna – Lady Bird, The Shape of Water and Call Me By My Name.
CLUBS
Božidar – Saturday sees a night of rap, funk and soul with an all-female crew of DJ K'Pow, DJ Lazy One, and DJ Saraieva, as heard below.
Gala Hala – Friday, March 9, is an all-nighter for the day after Women’s Day, with a mix of hip hop, electronic music and dance, as played by S.A. Voidette, R36, Blažen DJ, and Jaša Bužinel
Klub Cirkus – The klub will be celebrating Women’s Day on Thursday in its own way, with the Total Knockout male erotic dance show and various party games. Friday is big room anthems, EDM, future house, trap, and dance, while Saturday is Tutti Frutti: 90s & 00s hits,
Klub K4 - Friday is K4x4, a night of house, techno, electro, and disco, with Ian F. (Luckison), Roiss (Phi), Limc (Just Us), Utti (Synaptic), Vuka (Kvalitat), and b2b Stascha. Saturday is then Temnica, which looks like dark techno, featuring Tritch (RŠ), Krilc (Sesame), Adamm (KungFu), Illman (KungFu) and the wonderfully named A Humanoid Individual.
EXHIBITIONS
The Balassi Institute (The Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Hungary) – This is at Barvarska steza 8, Ljubljana, not far from Dragon Bridge, and from March 6 until April 30 will be hosting a show by László Herman, a Hungarian painter living in Slovenia, with an example shown below.
Cankerjev dom – Running from February 13 to May 20 is Ivan Meštrović: Physicality and eroticism in sculpture, with an example shown below from the venue's Facebook. The same venue also has THE... SIGN! Design between vision and reality, the biennial exhibition of the Designers Society of Slovenia. Finally, there’s a show called Nocturnes, presenting the work of London-based photographer Mike Crawford, which explores the hidden corners of cities.
Ivan Meštrović: Physicality and eroticism in sculpture
City Museum – An extensive exhibition on Medieval Ljubljana is showing until May 2, 2018.
Galerija Vžigalica – From February 27 to April 1 there will be Sea by the City, an exhibition showcasing works from the Trieste art scene.
MAO – a show called Stanko Kristl: Poetry and Humanity in Architecture continues until May 27.
Moderna galerija – The Marij Pregelj retrospective is on at the Moderna’s main branch, near Tivoli. Well worth the entrance fee, this occupies several large rooms, with the works from the last decade of the painter’s life being especially impressive. Highly recommended and showing until May.
National Gallery –NeoRealismo: the New Image in Italy, 1932–1960 runs until the end of March at the National Gallery, as shown below, and you can read more about it here.

Klub Tiffany – Red Dawns will be hosting slam poetry here Thursday evening, with various other such events on around town, as laid out here.
LIVE MUSIC
Channel Zero – Thursday sees a fairly exciting double bill, with Motorpsycho and Dope Calypso, while March 9 and 10 there’s two nights of something punkier, with KBO!, Ispad and Zabojnik.
Klub Gromka – Friday has a concert by Contorture, Doxie, and Pakt, with the first described as follows on the website "Handle with care, this is fuggin' deadly. Göteborg's Contorture goes straight for the jugular with their raging feminist käng, expertly toeing the raw/melodic line that has come to define Swedish crust in the last decade.” See more below.
Ljubljana Castle – Friday night is jazz night at the castle, and this week sees a show by the Jure Pukl Quartet, playing New York Jazz.
Pritličje – Thursday evening has a concert by Sky (Poland), playing “heartcore, death, r&b, and witchgaze”, joined by JUNEsHELEN.
Vodnikova domačija – Thursday there’s a show by Bossa de novo.
OPERA, THEATRE, DANCE
Pocket Teater Studio – The very intimate and independent Pocket has a return performance of Okno v province: Moja nona Ištrijanka on Friday night (in Slovene).
SNG Opera & Ballet – The company is performing Beauty and the Beast (Lepotica in Zver) by Philip Glass on and off until the end of March.
MISC
Ziferblat – Monday there’s Let’s Talk Slovene, Wednesday has the Creative Writing Club, Friday is Chess Club, and Sunday is Portuguese Movie Night.
