For some reason not many people know there’s a penthouse pool at the Grand Hotel Union, part of the Sense Wellness Spa, soon to be celebrating its second anniversary.
True, it’s not Olympic-sized, and there are no slides or diving boards, but that’s not what the aim is at the top of the grandest hotel in Ljubljana. No, this small, heated pool is just 1.3m deep and the idea is to relax rather than swim 1.5km, to float and move a little, letting the cares of the day fade away along with any tension, in keeping with the general theme of Sense Wellness – comfort, care and pleasure – with saunas, massages, and other spa treatment on offer.

But let’s get to the point, because time is running out if want to enjoy spa’s current promotion, which is so good we had to check twice with the manager: Ljubljana residents can get one hour in the pool for free, and enjoy not only the warm water but also the view from the balcony, looking out at the Castle and the Old Town.
The pool is in the penthouse.As an additional offer the spa also has a special “count-down” deal on annual passes to the pool, and thus we can’t tell you the price as this will change over time. But, again, the important things is this – if you live in Ljubljana you can try one hour in the pool for free until the end of the month, an unbeatable offer that we’ll be taking up early next week.

More details can be found here, and note that “Ljubljana resident” is rather undefined, but something with your address on it will do, if asked for proof. The offer, which usually costs €15, can only be enjoyed once by each person. Bring your own towel and flip flops, or borrow them for free from the spa, but don’t forget your swimsuit.
The pool is open from 07:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, and can be found on the ninth floor of the Grand Union Hotel, with the best entrance to use being the one from the business end of the hotel, as shown on the map below.
