The Slovenian designer Peter Movrin has taken another step up the ladder of success with the announcement on his Facebook page that he’s been hired by the London-based Alexander McQueen fashion label. Movrin himself has been in the UK since 2014, were he obtained a womenswear MA at Central Saint Martins school of art and design, although his clothes have been making appearances at Ljubljana Fashion Week, as shown in the video below.
In addition to the new job, Movrin is also among the semi-finalists for the prestigious H&M Design Award, the winner of which will be announced on November 29th.
Movrin, the son of a butcher who grew up in Kočevje cutting meat before fabric, once said that he sees clothes as a form of jewellery for the body. The bold silhouettes of the resulting outfits have attracted the attention of some of the more adventurous pop stars, such as Lady Gaga and Bjork, as well as being used in the Hunger Games films, and thus he should be a good fit with the Alexander McQueen team, although his exact role remains unknown.

This is certainly a more conventional Slovenian connection for Alexander McQueen. The last big local story on the fashion label was about another Saint Martins student, Tina Gorjanc, who in 2016 planned to use the late designer’s DNA to grow skin in a lab, which she would then turn into leather, from which she intended to make a range of bags and accessories.
