Migrantour – Intercultural Urban Routes is a project that started in Turin, Italy, which trains immigrants to become intercultural guides for the cities they now live in, thus helping with both integration efforts and employment opportunities, as well as providing a new service to visitors and locals – a better understanding of the many-layered ways which in which immigrants have contributed to the histories of their cities, as well as their current status. Since launching it has spread to a number of other cities in Italy, as well as Paris, Lisbon, and now Ljubljana.
The EU-supported scheme is mainly aimed at first- and second-generation immigrants, but anyone who has a passion for this kind of thing is welcome to take part, and those interested should contact the organisation responsible for the Ljubljana-based project, Terra Vera, by email (drustvo.terravera(AT)gmail.com). If you prefer a more casual approach then it’s also possible to come in person and see some of the training, which happens each Monday at 17:00 at Ziferblat until June, and then starting again in September.
It’s an interesting project, and one that should attract some interesting people who are anxious to learn more about the place they now call home.
