As a general rule I won’t post non-consensual pictures of people getting drunk or eating, so this is illustrated with beermats, beer bottles and my dinner. But if you like craft beer, and want to try a lot, in small amounts (from 150ml up), among “your people” and with ready access to burgers, pizzas, falafel wraps and more, as well as a soundtrack of well-curated tunes, then get to the Makro Pivo Fest, if not in Ljubljana then the next one, May 26, in Krško, with our interview with organiser and some more details to be found here.
You'll find an interesting range of beers, more than anyone could reasonably sample on one trip, from Slovenian brewers as well as others from Croatia, Hungary, the Netherlands and elsewhere.
Most stalls are worked by the producers, and so you can meet them and discuss their work, a rare treat for both sides and a closing of the circle within a collegiate atmosphere. One of the nicest things of my stay in the hall, among a surfeit of pleasures, was the common sight of one brewer coming back from another holding a glass and raving about the experience – we all have something to learn and enjoy.
So if you’d like to learn more from dozens of brewers, from Slovenia and its environs, head to a beer festival, today, tomorrow, or soon, and add to the gaiety of nations.
