STA, 3 April 2018 - The first European blockchain summit, a high-profile event discussing European initiatives and regulations for blockchain technology and initial coin offerings (ICO), will be held at Slovenia's Brdo pri Kranju next week.

The event is organised by Blockchain Alliance Europe, the Slovenian government, and the US-based blockchain software technology company ConsenSys in cooperation with government agencies and partners.

The summit, to be held on 11 April, will be opened by Prime Minister Miro Cerar, while European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel will also be in attendance.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Joseph Lubin, the co-founder of Ethereum, one of the most widespread cryptocurrencies.

"Lubin is an expert in blockchain technology, cryptography, finance and software. As the co-founder of the Ethereum platform and founder of ConsenSys, he is a world-leading expert in the field," the organisers said.

The opening addresses will be followed by panels discussing European initiatives for blockchain technology, regulations for blockchain technology and ICOs, as well as financing possibilities for European blockchain companies.

The number of companies implementing blockchain technology in practice is constantly growing in Slovenia. Both Slovenia and Europe want to be blockchain leaders, and the summit is meant to help realise this vision, said the co-host Blockchain Alliance Europe.

Blockchain Alliance Europe is a non-profit organisation which connects European companies and legal entities that use or implement blockchain technologies.
