Fraport, the company that operates Ljubljana’s Jože Pučnik Airport, has announced a record year with regard to passenger numbers, which hit 1,676,032 by December 27 in 2017, already 2,650 more than the previous record, which was set in 2008. The year also saw a year-on-year rise in traffic of just over 20%.
In a press release the company put the higher numbers down to more choosing Ljubljana Airport for direct flights, as well as to start longer journeys via the major European hubs.
The peak month in 2017 was September, which saw both the highest monthly total ever recorded at the airport, as was as the day with largest number of passengers (September 17, to be precise).
Looking ahead, Fraport said it expected the rapid growth seen this year to slow in 2018, and added that work would continue with further developing the airport. One such development is likely to be establishing a training centre for the Fraport Aviation Academy.
