The chocolate box beauty of Slovenia can get a little cloying at times. There’s only so many pictures of Bled you can look at without feeling slightly nauseous, like you’ve eaten two kremšnita washed down with three double espressos and four shots of slivovka before walking up to the castle and enjoying a burek and Laško, a meal that – despite what your hosts might tell you – is most assuredly not “the breakfast of a true Slovene”.
It was thus with some relief that this week’s photo turned up and offered a respite from all the natural beauty of this country, presenting instead an urban scene with surreal overtones, albeit one familiar to those who live or work in downtown Ljubljana and often walk by the National Assembly.
Since those who haven’t seen or heard this animal might doubt its existence we’re grateful that Marco Secchi, a professional photojournalist, agreed to share this picture with our readers. You can see more of Mr Secci’s work, which will reward your time with pleasure, on his Instagram page or professional site.
